AAKP Nutrition Counter
Reducing the amount of phosphorus in your diet is one of the keys to
controlling hyperphosphatemia. It’s not always easy. Phosphorus is found in
almost everything you eat, and some foods contain more than others.
Because nutritional knowledge is a vital part of phosphorus control, Shire, the
maker of FOSRENOL®, worked with the American Association of Kidney
Patients (AAKP) to sponsor the creation of a nutrition counter specifically
geared to kidney disease patients.
Easy-to-use, the AAKP Nutrition Counter lists sodium, potassium, phosphorus,
protein and calorie counts for a wide range of basic cooking ingredients, fresh
fruits and vegetables, beverages, snack foods and ready-to-eat foods, such as
bagels and croutons. Fast foods from national chain restaurants are also
included in this 24-page booklet.
Register to receive the AAKP Nutrition Counter now.
In addition to watching your phosphorus intake, it is important to take FOSRENOL® as directed by your doctor.
The most common adverse events were gastrointestinal, such as nausea and
vomiting, and generally went away over time with continued dosing.
